Can real strategy games work on a phone?
Strategy games and tiny touchscreens have a rough history. Fat fingers, cramped maps, menus hidden behind menus. So when I loaded up Ironline Command I was ready to be annoyed, and for about ten minutes I was.
Then it clicked. The game's focus on supply lines means you're not micromanaging a hundred units — you're managing a handful of routes, which is far friendlier to touch input. Good design beats screen size.
The real lesson is that mobile strategy works when developers design for the format instead of shrinking a PC game. Fewer units, clearer stakes, readable maps. Ironline Command gets this mostly right, even if the UI still gets cramped in the late game.
So yes, real strategy can live on a phone. It just has to be built for the phone first.
